Wall speakers with Zone setup

Its been very frustrating getting answers from Yamaha support regarding the setup I need and hopefully someone in this forum can assist. I have 4 wall mounted stereo speakers that I would like to use with Zone2 of my Yamaha RXV3800, run some light background music when I have friends over. Problem is that Zone2 comes with only one left and right hookup while I have 4 stereo speakers that need to run off Zone2. When I spoke with Yamaha support, I was told to avoid using splitters and instead purchase another amplifier. The wall speakers are 8 Ohms, 90 Watts each while the receiver is 4-8 Ohms 140 Watts per channel. What do I do?

A speaker selector would work or a small amp and put one pair on zone 3. Or you can run zone 3 powered and 3.1 in the main zone

Thanks...I was thinking of running the same background music on all 4 speakers from one zone, I guess that would eliminate the speaker selector. Any suggestions on a small amp?

The main zone already runs 5.1.

to run all four on one zone you still need a speaker selector like this. At backround levels you should be fine. What speakers are they?

Thanks, I found similar ones at TheSource and will check it out in a couple of days. Didn't realize that by default all speakers play the same audio through the selector switch and the buttons simply switch on/off the individual speakers. I was looking at the Polk Audio RC6s single stereo ceiling speakers, haven't purchased yet but will bring out the wallet soon.

Dont skimp on a cheap selector, you dont want to damage the amp or the speakers Also the speaker that your looking at is a single "stereo" speaker (2 tweeters) and are sold as ea. not pairs.

Totally agree, I don't want to risk the receiver or speaker. Which is why I will delve into more detail in the coming days. Thanks for pointing out the selector as an option, at least I have a direction now. Yes, you are right on the single "stereo" speakers and thats what I need. My home was prewired for stereo speakers in each of the 4 locations and not for a pair. I almost fell for a Bose inwall speaker set that came in pairs, would have been perfect if those were single stereo. Unless I decide on buying them anyway and relocating the wires for a cost to use a pair.

Any suggestions on inwall subwoofers to go with each of the 4 speakers? How would those feed off the the same Zone2 from the receiver?

I have the RC6's and they do a very good job for background music for that type of system.

One thing to remember is that if you have 4 single stereo speakers that are essentially 4 pairs of speakers which will increase the load to the amp. The Niles is an impedance matching switcher so it will keep the amp load to 8 ohms but you may still think about getting an extra amp just to give you a bit more power when you want it.

I am using an Onkyo M-282 to run my 3 sets of speakers and it does a great job.

I got my little AudioSource amp for 53 bucks refurbed and it works great for my zone 3 speakers.
