Hit the studs center with lags, no sleeves. I pre-drill mine. If you can't hit the studs, you'll have to use a backer board which means cutting the wall, more work but doable.
Thanks mate I got a 4/5" wood screws to bite in to the wall studs

IMHO, a wood screw of 4/5" isn't very strong. I assume you're going through 1/2" sheetrock which leaves little depth into the stud. Thelast thing you want is to find you TV on the floor one morning.

If you are going into wall studs through plaster/drywall then you want to use 3" to 4" lag bolts available from your local hardware store. If you order a mount from Monoprice, then that mount will come with lag bolts in the bag, and those should be used.

Hit the studs.

Which TV are you hanging?

You should not be using liquid nails, or anything else in this process, unless it was already used on the plaster and wood studs. Four lag bolts hitting studs will support 300+ pounds of weight without any issue at all. Make sure to use the washers which come with the mount as well.

Generally, an ideal setup, is that the mount will hit two studs that are 18" apart from each other and that the center of the mount is then the center of the TV location.

Which TV model do you own? Plasma? LCD? Size? Weight? If you have a LED lit LCD (Samung) then they are incredibly light and could probably be supported by velcro (don't do this!).

Larger sized displays, like 60"+ can use the 'oversized' mount from Monoprice which can easily handle displays that size and can potentially hit 3 studs in the wall. It offers a lot of lateral left/right motion with that mount which is great for placement flexibility with offset studs and a standard VESA mounting pattern.

Great info.

Just wanted to clarify a small typo.
Probably should read 16" apart.
Unless it's a Queensland Australia thing.:D

Well maybe where your from that's is easy to do
Just noticed you said this. It's easy to do all over the world.

Step one: Buy appropriate TV mount.

Step two: Find studs

Step three: Pre-drill holes/make level

Step four: Hang mount

Step five: Attach TV

Not rocket science. I hung mine myself.

Maybe if you're using Velcro. :D

Weight is weight. It doesn't matter if it's a plasma or LCD TV. Get a wall mount that is rated for the proper amount of weight, secure it to your wall properly (e.g. in studs), and attach the TV to the mount properly, and you'll be fine.
It depends on the weight of the TV. I have a 32" LCD in the bed room and teh only place to hang it missed all the wall studs all together. So far so good. I've even slammed the bedroom door about 10x times in a row to see if tehre was any ill affect and she's still good and tight against the wall with no sign off pulling away from the plaster. If the display was heavier than 20 lbs, then I would definately hook into wall studs.

Actually no its not. I don't have any small childen that would pull themselves up using the TV. The distributed load due to the TV's weight on each anchor is far less then what the anchors are rated to hold. Also, this is a wallmount that does NOT telescope making the load static on the anchors. Nothing is changing. If it were telescoping or if I had small children, then I would have looked for studs.

I never doubt anyone here or elsewhere but I just feel that you may be mistaken about the studs, I dont feel as if it could be possible for you to miss all studs unless your wall mount is 14 1/2 inches wide or smaller, even if your studs are 2 foot on center I would think the mount could catch at least one. Now I dont know the exact build style of your home but there is surely something in them there walls holding up the plaster/wallboard.

The studs are 16" centered. However, the location is centered between the door and the furniture and the furniture cannot be relocated. It is what it is. But like I said, its only 20lbs non telescoping and each anchor can hold 10lbs. Its all good. Its been hanging there for two years with no sign of becoming loose. :)
