VSX-74TXVI on screen menu help

I am having trouble accessing my on screen set up menu. Here is my set up, any help would be greatly appreciated!

LG LCD TV HDMI to DirectTV DVR
Samsung Blue Ray HDMI to LG TV and optical audio to AV

I was using Coaxial for sound but the new blue ray does not have this so I need to change my audio settings to optical but with this set up when I press reciever and setup to access the on screen menus nothing shows up.

You need a video connection from the receiver to the TV. It's better to run your sources through the AVR.

You could run the HDMI to the receiver and then to the TV. I had the 72TXV and I think the OSD will only run with component so check your manual. Or maybe it was a particualr resolution setting like 480i that it ouputs and you need to make sure your TV will do 480i over HDMI. Sorry I'm not sure it has been a while since I had that receiver.
