Generally speaking, Where are the best video scalers (aside from seperate dedicated ones) found? On the display or in the dvd player?

Generally speaking, it depends.

From what I've been able to gather, some TV's will have good scalers like the Reon, which can also be found is some DVD players and receivers. Even then, it depends on the implementation of the chip by the manufacturer as to whether they can get the most out of it. You could say not all Reon products are created equal.

Some manufacturers will put a Reon in their high end components, but use ABT or Faroudja in their price sensitive models.

It also seems to me that it is very hard to find out what scalers are used in many products, especially TV's. I don't know. I'm still trying to figure it all out myself. Hopefully, you have started a thread that will lead to many enlightening replies for both of us.
