Video RCA as Sub cable?

What is the difference between video RCA (usually yellow) and stereo (red/white) cables or Sub cables? Is it just how they are shielded? Can I use my Video RCA as a sub cable or vice-versa? I have a lot of these RCA cables lying around now since I have upgraded to component/hdmi, digital optical etc. Why not just have one RCA cable that will do everything?

The standards are a bit different for video and audio, so it isn't always a good idea to use them all interchangeably. However, the video requires higher standards, so you can always use video RCA cables for audio.

If the audio cables are made to high standards (which you cannot tell by how thick it is), then it would be fine for video use as well. My advice is to try it and see, if that is what one has.

Did you look at the dates? The latest is 2002 . A lot has happened in the last seven years. P.S.- Audioholics has had some discussion threads on this before --- better reference IMHO

In answer to OP's question save your money and use an extra RCA cable you have laying around. You will be had pressed to tell any difference except you wallet won't be as light

If I gave you a sub cable, a video cable and a coaxial digital cable from one manufacturer, they would likely all be the same cable with different colors/printing, etc... If it is all you have and you already have it, you won't likely notice a difference between it and a sub cable.

I agree with the others above - I've been using an RCA coax video cable for my sub for ages as it sits close to my rack and I didn't need a long one. Works great. The only instance where I would get a better|heavier one is if the sub was far removed from the amp.

As long as it's a 75 ohm cable, you will be fine. I use component video cable for audio and video, never had a problem.
