VH1 Rock (Dis)honors Genesis?

Genesis' heart wasn't in the performance
Huh? Genesis is one of the best live bands in rock history musically IMO. During the late 70s they really peaked musically with Hackett on guitars, Bruford/Phil/Chester on drums, etc. Listen to Seconds Out and then tell me their heart wasn't in their performance. Very few bands in rock can play the music they used to play.

I think that quote was referring to the VH1 performance, Gene, and frankly, I have to agree with it. Sorta. TIOA was lifeless. NSOM was okay. But Los Endos, I have to say, was pretty good, from what I remember.

And Mike, should I assume that there are setlist spoilers in that link you posted? I haven't decided if I want to know the setlist, so for now, I'll stay away from it!

cheers,
supervij

Yes, SPOILER ALERT!! But it is one song that has been mentioned by the band several times that they will be playing. The visuals would be a spoiler too.
Sorry about that. I tried to edit but couldn't figure out how.

Sorry about the off topic bit but I couldn't help myself!:D

Yes.. thanks for the link! I have seen a few more clips, and also (audio only) the entire In the Cage medley... They absolutely sound great. People that have went have said they sounded excellent. This is great considering it's the first show. They will only get better.

The stage is massive, not going to fit in any arena's in the US. Not sure what they will do.

One other note, people did say that Phil's voice sounded top notch, which is really good to hear.

It looks like Genesis has redeemed themselves. Take a look at these videos from their first concert last night:

Pretty awesome! Now I feel bad about writing that VH1 editorial
Well... maybe you can redeem yourself when a concert dvd comes out, that is if it's of good quality. I think they said they are going to shoot the free concert in Rome, on July 14th.. in HD. Hope so!

Spoiler Alert!!

To bad it doesn't get dark in Finland this time of year until around 11pm. The light show was somewhat lost in the daylight. But what a stage!

Yeah Gene it was the VH-1 performance, I don't blame Genesis, I blame VH-1 for making it a shlocky production, that's probably why the guy's weren't into the whole thing, I felt a little embarrassed just looking at the band's facial expressions, they looked as if they really didn't want to be there, look how bad ZZ Top did. And again, that moronic insipid host Margera, VH-1 dropped the ball on that one too. Genesis is in a different class, the production was geared for a younger (way younger, skateboard/emo) crowd who don't know or care about Genesis or ZZ Top material.

My Genesis Live at Wembley DVD is quite good. It is a fairly recent concert.

Yes it is fairly recent, that is if you think 20 years ago is recent??

Anyhow, great dvd indeed... but the forthcoming one that they are filming in HD in Rome this year, will more then likely blow the IT show away in many more ways then one.

I didn't think it was nearly that old. I will check the date on it. It was after the band had been reduced to three members, so much newer than the classic Genesis.
(In any event, at my age, 20 years ago is recent.:D)

Mike, is it confirmed that the Rome gig WILL be in HD? I've been staying away from the G forum cos there are so many spoilers floating around there, and I want to be surprised by the setlist.

The Wembley show was recorded in 1987, Joe. And I just pulled it out a few days ago too! I just HAD to watch/listen to the Drum Duet & Los Endos. That thing frickin' kills me every time. (And makes me air drum to an embarassing degree!)

cheers,

Yes that is my understanding. I think in this day and age, it's mandatory that it be filmed in HD. I can't wait to hear how many people show up for Rome. I heard maybe it will be north of 300,000 people. What a rush that would be!

Don't blame you from staying away from the spoilers... me, I can't help it!

Many longtime Genesis fans are saying that this may be the best show they have ever put on, setlist/sound/visuals/performance.
