Very novice question

Hi, I'm sorry for this very begginer question. I have a HT 5.1, that's fine for movies but not so good for music. I'm want to buy an extra amplifier and two good speakers to connect to the pre-out of the AV receiver (front left and right). The question is: if I connect an extra amplifier to the 2 front channels, will the old speakers still sound? I mean, will I have sound in the 7 speakers + sub? Hope you understand my question, cause my english sucks... :(

Thanx in advance

If the receiver has pre-outs, then sure you can connect the front channels to an amp and then the speakers to the amp. All of the other speakers remain connected to the receiver.

When playing in stereo mode, the amp will amplify the front 2 channels.

When you are playing multi-channel, the amp will amplify the front 2 channels and the receiver will amplify the others.
