I was wondering what peoples opinion of the Velodyne VX10 was, I want a sub that's not too expensive, and all the reviews say it's great...I have a Sony SA-WM200 now I figured that the VX-10 would be an upgrade? what do you think?

Thanks
Rob:)

I have a VX10 in my bedroom. For the money (~$160) it's a very nice little sub for a small room. The sound is tight and clean, much cleaner than the CHT-12 that briefly replaced it in the livingroom. The downside is that it only packs 100w RMS with peak power limited to 150w. The bottom line is that it's a fine little sub for an average sized bedroom or maybe a dorm room, but it's just way too under powered for a home theater or living room.

I also own the VX-10 and find it a huge upgrade over an old infinity BU-1 subwoofer. I compared the VX-10 to a polk audio psw303 and liked the vx-10 much more. I have it in a room that's 15x19 and it still fills in the low end pretty good. It's not a really deep sub, and there is port noise when you really blast it but overall it has been a very good purchase for me.

I guess it depends on what you're going to listen to. For audio it does a fine job in my 20 by 30 listening room with carpet and lots of upholstered furniture. But I don't listen to hip hop or need movie explosions to shake the poop out of me. ;) But for rock, blues and jazz it does plenty good and it's only turned up half way. Movies sound very ummmm......real. :)

One other thing is that I've read reviews of the VX-10 that said that the receiver output level had to be turned up very high to get adeqate volume. I have the output level set the same as for the other speakers and the knob on the sub about 1/3rd of the way up. If I had either of these turned up much higher or near full as those reviews state it would totally overpower the speakers and probably knock things off the shelves.

Also some have said that it takes several minutes to turn on. Mine takes no time at all, it comes on right away.

The VX-10 seemed to be back ordered everywhere I looked a couple weeks ago so I pre ordered and I got one from the latest shippment. Maybe Velodyne fixed these glitches in the latest batch.

you would be hard pressed to scare your girlfriend with a sub less than $200. You could try this thing if it is ever in stock.

They have never had it in stock since I became interested in the model, but they have all the parts to make the sub for sale for more money, go figure.

I dig it...;)

I've had some hip hop on from the radio and deliberately turned the VX-10 up "too loud" for my usual listening just to test it out and it produced some really nice sub bass thump and boom....Lung compression I call it. As I said I use it nowhere near it's full potential in my normal listening but when I cranked it I couldn't get it to noticably distort, perhaps the source content hasn't pushed it far enough though.

I was looking at the Dayton of the same price, same wattage and it goes 10hz lower. Maybe that would be a good Idea? I'm not nearly knowledgable enough about this stuff though.

If you called it "Lung Compression", then VX-10 will be enough for me.

I recall reading that music you "feel in your guts" is really creating pressure waves through that big bellows in your chest instead. That's where most of the interior feeling comes from. Keep in mind that your lungs go down almost to the bottom of your rib cage in your back, and up to your collar bones. That's where the name came from.

I like Alicia too.
