Has anyone purchased a Velodyne SMS-1? How effective was it in controlling the Bass in the room? Positive purchase?

Mine does an excellent job. One person here had a hum problem using it in an older house that still has only 2 wire outlets (no ground plug).

If you want to dig deep on this product, there's a thread dedicated to this product over on AVS forum that is over a thousand posts long...

Can it handle multiple subs at the same time?

Although it has three LFE outputs, I split one of those and am controlling four subs and it does a remarkable job -- VERY easy to use and can easily watch the screen to make small (or large) tweaks in phase, gain, placement, room furniture changes and see the effects in real time. It made a remarkable difference!!

On AVS you might check the Velodyne EQ forum for postings about the SMS-1.

The big thread is here:

For more, Advanced Search in Audio/Subwoofers for SMS. Search thread titles only first, posts are too numerous to mention...

There is also the Offical Velodyne Support thread in the same area.

Thank you, Bruce Hall, for making this available to the audio community.

And yes, I am 'abusing' mine also by connecting 4 subs to it with no audible effects I can discern. Obviously one would want to not try to drive the unit too hard under these conditions.
