Velodyne Impact 10 or BIC v1020 ?

Can anyone give me some advice on which of these two would be a better choice? I am leaning toward these two based on their value/physical size.
My room is 21x12. Speakers are Polk RTi8 and I mostly will use the sub for home theater. I am more interested in clarity rather than shaking the walls.
Thanks in advance.

You have a decent sized room and speakers. For the best HT experience you at least want a sub that provides decent output down to the lowest audible frequencies. Those two subs are going to be a little boomy due to their designs. For a little more I’d recommend an HSU STF-2 instead. http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/stf-2.html

Thanks so much for the help. The HSU is a bit over my budget, which I have to keep at $250. I know that this is the very low end, but not owning any sub now for my 5.1, I will be happy just having any decent one.
Any other suggestions?
Any comments on the Energy ESW 10?
Thanks again.

The Premier Acoustics PA-120 for 229.00 shipped is what you should be looking at for your size room. The subs your looking at and the ESW-10 are way to small for a room that size.

The PA-120 is getting some good reviews over at AVS and the build quulity is very good for the price. You might want to find that thread in the subwoofer forum over there.

Thanks, I checked it out but it won't fit in the space that it needs to go. Any other suggestions?
What should I be looking for, RMS wattage or peak? Sorry, I don't know much about subs.

It's not so much about wattage as it is moving large amounts of air. You need a bigger sub in that size room. Wattage can be mis-leading . It's more about the efficiency of the driver and the enclosure it's put in.

Also keep in mind you need to be flexible with placement of the sub. Location is the key in getting good performance from a sub.

Sounds like you need to up your budget and save for a while longer to get the appropriate sub for your room. It's what I'm doing and I know it will be well worth it. Besides the RTi-8's will have ok bass until you can get the correct sub.

Your size and location constraint may help to narrow (pun intended) the choices.

Look for some of the recommendations above on the used marker, especially Audiogone.com and you can always look at your local Craigslist. A few HSU's in my area so you never know what you will find :D

Well I don't have the Bic V1020 you mentioned, but I do own two Bic V1220 that I currently use for my system downstairs. For the price range you mentioned, it's very good for the money (i.e. the Bic V1210 is currently being sold for $218.35 at Amazon with free shipping). It provides good LFE for not a lot of money. I know people on here would suggest that you save your money for a HSU or SVS... But depending upon your financial situation right now and how eager you are to purchase a sub, I think you would be please with it's performance. Now far as being boomy, I've never had an issue with it considering it's design. Placement will play a factor... I have mine in opposite corner's towards my front mains. Hope that helps.
