Velodyne HGS 18s vs JTR Caps

Hey Guys,
I am stressing out! I put up my Velos for sale and I have someone coming to pick them up tomorrow! Im getting a fair price. I have a room 33x36x11 and have been using 2 of them. I have been considering the JTR Caps, either passive or with the 1000 watt amp. My goal was to get a little more umph in the 20-40 range as my room is large and I can t get the subs into corners as we have an open floor plan. My concern now is that I may be loosing accuracy and smoothness of response for eth increase in output. I had also considered The Ultras but I have been reading the Caps are stronger.

Being I cant compare side by side and need to sell the Velos to buy the new subs, I thought I would reach out to you guys for a few educated opinions

Should I call off the sale?

JTR Cap all the way IMO. Theres a difference between the two models passive and active, the passive's driver has 30mm Xmax where as the 1000watt model has only 18mm. Also the passive has 24mm cabinet vs 18mm, either one would an improvement over the Velos IMO. The Velos are sealed vs ported Caps so output will be huge.

As much as I love the SVSound Ultra subs, they have their limits! Your room is HUGE, over 13,000 cubic feet. I mean, the SVS Ultra subs will output 20Hz at a bit over 110dB - but that's from a mere 2 meters away. A more typically sized room will have enough room gain to let one hit reference volumes. But your room? Not so much :p

"There's no replacement for displacement" as they say. The Passive JTR Captivator, with its large 18" driver and high excursion is gonna be able to move more air. Plain and simple. Your is the rare case where you could make an SVS Ultra run out of steam on a regular basis. It still won't distort and it won't damage itself, which is great. But yeah, in that room size? Gotta go with the JTRs in this match up :)

I heard the best 3 subs in terms of extension and output are Seaton Submersive, JTR Captivator, & Funky Waves 18"?

Somebody straighten me out here.:D

There are also others worth looking at like the JTR Orbit Shifter and Danley DTS-10...and the Eminent Technology TRW-17 if you want response as low as 1Hz :D

You might perceive this, because you're coming from a sealed sub with a rolled off bottom end. Once you add more bass at the bottom, your perception of fast bass goes down, because lower frequencies are intrinsically "slower". In rooms, yes even large rooms, subs with a lot of bottom end can occasionally overwhelm the balance of bass due to room gain. More low frequencies means sluggish bass.

That's NOT a bad thing though. All it means is, you need to exercize due diligence to get the frequency response curve IN ROOM to a tighter response (EQ'd flat or slightly rolling off).
