I am planning on buying the HGS-15. Any other subs in this price range that I should look at. If not, any experiences with the HGS-15. Thanks a lot.

There is a review on this website, that should account for something.

I would audition the servo\position feedback subs like the Paradigm, Velodyne, Martin Logan, and others as suggested. The low distortion is something to behold.

Did you ever own the the Origonal Servo-15? It puts up some good numbers, better then the Sig Servo.

No, Sheep, but I read the rave reviews about the original servo, which is what prompted me to audition the v.2, and ultimately, purchase it. Happy listening.

Sorry, but where does this info come from? Have you checked AV Talk's measurements?

I am really disappointed that Klipsch decided to go with an equalizer instead of position feedback on their new subwoofers. An equalizier is nice but is kind of like shutting the barn gate after the horses are out.

Thats where I gathered this opinion.

They have tested both the sig servo and the org.

The Org. performed better IMO.

Sig servo.

Ok, so how come you say that the original is better? I mean the sig servo/V2 pulls out more than 10 dB clean output? Below 30 Hz only 5 dB, but still... It would need 4 older models to match one newer above 30 Hz. Could you explain more?

Yes, westcott. I used to adhere to the adage "Klipsch is King", but then I heard other brands. I am in no way disparaging Klipsch. They have their own unique sound (bright), and are well made. The beauty of subs is there is absolutely no problem mixing and matching. Cheers.

Well, theres the 10% distortion spike at 120Hz. The HUGE, non unifrom THD spike below 20Hz, and the shallower -3dB point (though only by 1 hert). And finally all the power compression.

Any questions? :)

Yes, just one. Who runs a sub at 120hz?
Its spikes at 120, but it tapers off into the audible range. Plus, the crossover is not exactly a brick wall.

Maybe not a brick wall, but set at 80hz anything at 120hz should be speakers only. You would have to be inches from the sub to hear any distortion, a non issue.

Distortion at 120 Hz doesn't matter, because we usually cut our subs at 80 Hz.

If you look them closer, you'll see that at the same level (for example at 95 dB) Sig servo actually has much less THD than the older servo. THD rises only at very high levels below 20 Hz, which older servo can not even produce.

As said before, at the time sig servo starts to compress, older servo has bailed out long time ago. Look at the 10-12 dB output difference above 30 Hz and 5 dB difference below! 6 dB means doubling up the number of subs.

I know reading those measurements can be very hard, but actually the newer servo is much better sub than the older one. At least when looking at those measurements.

Did you look at the graph? Its at about 6% THD at 80hz. The org. is at 1%.

IMO, the Original is better.

Better is relative. If you like the extra low end and the bumb around 30Hz, go buy the Sig. :D
