OK folks, who makes the best vanilla ice cream? I've tried Brigham's, Hargen Daaz, JP Licks, Coldstone Creamery, Richardson's, Friendly's, and others. I'm a fan of Brigham's myself probably because there was a location around the corner from where I grew up.

Vanilla ice cream is kinda funny. It's simplicity and purity of flavor is what makes it difficult to hide any additives. It's the acid test of an ice cream companies quality. The best I've had is from Blue Bell Creameries but it's sort of local to Texas and it's environs so I don't get it too often. ...yet

But, I find Breyer's, if it's been kept properly, is a good second.

It's funny you mention Coldstone Creamery. That, and Marble Salb both offer "sweet cream" which, to me, is like vanilla on steroids.

I figured a great way to get the best ice cream...

2 and a 1/2 cups heavy cream {local made}, 1 1/2 cup whole milk {also local}, 1 1/2 cups natural sugar, 2tbl sns davincis madagascar vanilla flavor, and a pinch of sea salt, mix it all up and throw it all in your cuisinart ice-100 machine for 40 minutes then taste it, if it, make yourself some notes,
too much vanilla, too sweet? next time put 1 cup sugar and half the vanilla,
not sweet enough? put more sugar,
too creamy? use less heavy cream and more milk or low fat milk...

you can tailor it to your taste, and get YOUR perfect ice cream, with NO preservatives or other garbage...

I have it about perfect for my taste, I then take that vanilla ice cream and add reeses pieces to it and some salted caramel syrup ontop, its wonderfull, the color starts to run from the reeses and gives it a rainbow feel, I have some in the freezer Ill take a pic in a few minutes....

If anyone loves ice cream they should own the ice-100 machine, I own a more expensive one too but use the cuisinart machine over it any day for less than 1/4 the price!!! You literally stir the ingredients in a bowl, turn the machine on pour them in and come back in 30-40 minutes, if you like your ice cream really high throw it in the freezer for an hour and add less salt, I like it soft serv....

heres some pics, this is the vanilla, I toss some reeses pieces in the mixer but always add some later too, since I was taking a pic I made myself a bowl, and threw in some reeses mini cups too, we have literally 30 different kinds of candies and at least 10 flavored syrups in one of our lazy susans, not all of them come in bags like reeses so most are just boxes of candy bars but we have them all.... We do a lot of entertaining, and the kids are always having someone over for something, them ice cram machines have paid for themselves easily... I do still some store bought gelatos, since them are harder to perfect than ice cream, and they come PERFECT out of the box, lol... You can make gelato but some of the ones available now are just amazing...

On second thought this may not be a good idea for anyone that is a compulsive eater, being able to make any flavor ice cream on a whim at 1 am can be bad for your health... A while back {when I was using the lello machine that costs much more than the ice100 but is not as good} me and a few friends were at my house after another friends bachelor party, 1 am and some asked what the lello did {it was on the counter}, 5 minutes later we have a batch of butter pecan churning away, 30 minutes later its ice cream and 10 minutes after that we all ate too much ice cream for that hour in the morning... If I remember correctly about 20 minutes after the ice cream was gone we were making pizza....

anyway heres some pics I just snapped...
you can see the machine in the pics, its really not that big, we keep it under the counter in a drawer, I pulled it out for these pics, just for you guys...

Ice cream is tricky.
Not only does the quality of ingredients count, yet so does weight.
Ice cream that has too much air whipped into it isn't as good.
To answer your question, Ben & Jerry's Vanilla.

Blue Bell French Vanilla is amazing and my favorite. But I'd rather have the cookies and cream or chocolate cookie dough.

I LIKE Farr Better, and Smith's Private Selection, both Utah companies, pretty good. The Cold Stone is good, but pricy.

Central Market has it. But I share your sorrow for not having a full HEB in town. Unfortunately they are very conservative when it comes to entering new markets. They do own 24 lots in the DFW area and have already started a media blitz. So I imagine soon they'll be here.

Yes, I've read about the land purchases they've made. I really hope they build one up here in the n.fort worth/keller/alliance area.

I could of course go to the central market in southlake, but I'm lazy :D I do most of my grocery shopping at the nearby costco or kroger.

We don't do normal shopping at central market, but we definitely love the store being right down the street from us. The deli and bakery are amazing. Between the sushi, muffins, deserts, and steam vegetables that taste farm fresh it's a great place for a good meal.

I really do like Central Market a lot. It just hasn't been very convenient for me to go there for awhile. After we get married this weekend (woohoo) I'm sure we'll go more often. I've been regularly going to Mansfield for the last couple years (already have 34,000 miles on a new car I purchased January 2013!) and haven't spent that much time shopping around up north :D

Olympic Mountain Ice Cream. It is the best ice cream I have ever had anywhere and it's made right down the road from where I live. It's a mom and pop operation and I have even done work for them and they tipped me with ice cream :) . I love vanilla ice cream and their Madagascar Vanilla is awesome but they have so many other awesome flavors made with all natural organic ingredients that it is very hard to choose. They supply ice cream to many of the finer restaurants in Western Washington so if anyone is ever in the Seattle/Bellevue area be sure to hit up one of the places that serves it.
