Vandersteen 1C!!! What do you think?

Hi everybody. I am new in this forum and from Malaysia. Have a question here and hope you experienced audio buffs can help me out. :)

I have been doing some reading up on the Vandersteens and found them rather interesting. Was thinking of getting a pair of 1C to try out (that's all I could probably afford), but the problem is they are not available in Malaysia. So, I wrote to Vandersteen and awaiting reply if they are willing to send me all the way from the US of A.

The big question, are they really nice (strictly) for audio applications only. Presently, my system consists of a Denon DCD-2800AL CD Player, a DIY Matisse Fantasy MkII pre, Pass Aleph 3 and a pair of Epos ES11.

Would appreciate first hand opinions from those who owns, previously owned, or have heard the 1C in action.

Thanks.

I listened to the 1C about 2 years ago and found they had a very nice sound but fairly week in the lower end. You would definitely need to add a sub for full sound. That said, I really was impressed by the 2C and it was one of the final three speakers I narrowed it down to. It has much better bass response and is just a better speaker all around. If you can, I would wait and save the money for the 2C. It's just a better option. I think the 1C was about $700 here in the states and the 2c was about $1300 to $1400. I think.

Also, if you do go with Vandersteen, make sure you can return the speakers if you don't like them. Vandersteen seems to be one of those, "love'em or hate'em" speakers. I like them alot, but some do not. For music, they are very good speakers. For HT, not so much. At least to my ears.

Good luck,

Shinerman
