I just bought a Pioneer Elite VSX-74 from a local retailer, and so far the wife and I like it. However, I found that I can get a Yamaha RX-V 2600 for $470 less (both from authorized dealers) at the military exchange (don't ask why I didn't check there first). I'm torn on whether I should save $470 and get the Yammie or keep what I got. If any of you have experience with both you opinion is appreciated. Hell, even if you don't tell me what you think. BTW, I AM A "FRUGAL" SOB, but I always have money for toys.

thanks,
jason

Hi Jason,

don't blame yourself!
Fortunately you have the returning policy, right?

For that price difference, I wouldn't think twice; I mean, I would return the Pioneer and get the Yammi instead.

Please note that I'm sure both are excellent gears, but they're basically on same league, so end of the line you'll be the winner, as you'll save $ 470 bucks and will still have an awesome piece of gear, for sure.

Good luck on your trade and enjoy the sound!

Cheers / Avliner.

Agree w/ AVliner completely. For that much price difference, I'd definately go with the yamaha.

Have to agree

That is quite a savings for you. I suspect you won't really be able to tell any difference in 90-95% of listening or viewing, if you can ever really detect any difference.

It really seems worth it to make the exchange at the Exchange

If both have the same flexibility, and will do what you need from them in features, go for it. The difference will buy more toys or add up to a bigger one later.

Id go with the yamaha, although people might pick up on my seemingly bias view of pioneer's.

I would take it back. Nothing like pocketing almost 470$ and still having a great receiver.

Thanks for the feedback. Y'all just re-enforced my opinion. $470 is now going to the subwoofer fund. :D
