Real novice here. I'm trying to use a Yamaha receiver as the networking device for my new Sony home theatre. I have Sony XBR LCD, Blu Ray, Sony burner, and HD cable box.

It seems simple enough to follow instructions to hook up, but I'm not getting sound from blu ray on TV when hooked through receiver. I'm hooked optical and HDMI from DVD to Receiver, Rec to TV. The digital ports are labeled "DVD" and DTV/Cable so it in the right spot. Still no sound

No when I hook blu ray direct to TV with HDMI and Digital optical, I do get sound.

What the heck am I doing wrong?

Do I have to "program" receiver to be a pass through?

I'm at a loss to hook through receiver, although it seems very logical, mulitple HDMIs into one source, then that source into LCD, but its easier said than done.

Anyh help would be appreciated.

Regards.
Joe

Is there a setup routine in your receiver to assign the optical inputs to a device?

Audio connections

First off, the HDMI cable can carry the audio signal so an HDMI device like your BluRay player should only have a single HDMI connection to the receiver. Optical in not necessary.
