Using underrated speakers

My 5.1 receiver is rated 100W per channel. But I'm using 50W speakers for my rear speakers. How would this affect the whole system? Would it cause malfunctioning of the receiver? Thank you so much for answering.

Speaker power ratings are nonsense

As a former speaker engineer, let me attest to that. The ratings have nothing to do with damaging speakers. I'll spare you the blah blah blah and say that there are two types of people:
1) Sound is bad: they turn it down. Rarely will blow anything up
2) Crank it 'til the knob snaps: often blow everything up.
Amp and speaker power do not matter, it's "brain power" that does. Back off if the speakers sound bad and you should be fine. The numbers don't have to match at all.
