Using Home Theater Receiver as a Pre-Amp

So I wanted to use my Yamaha rx v995 as a preamp how will it sound? Will it sound better or the same with my Crown xli 800 amps? I will be using them amps with my receiver to have my 5.1 surround sound since I don't have the money for a pre-amp since I like what I have.

It will sound more or less the same but be capable of more SPL before audible distortion.

More spl capability (a bit more than 3dB). Maybe more with low impedance speakers. Not a huge difference and likely overkill on the surround channels. What speakers are you using? Your avr is running out of gas at higher spl now?

I use cerwin vega xls 215 for my main, my center is 2 cerwin vega xls 6c for my center, and cerwin vega xls 12 for my back surround sound.

You need more spl capability? Those are relatively high-sensitivity speakers.

Yeah, chances are, you won't notice any significant difference.
