Using dedicated AMP w/ Subwoofer?

Any one have any trouble using a dedicated amp and a DIY Subwoofer? The Receiver's outgoing LFE channel has the crossover, so it should filter the subwoofer channel correctly?

My Yamaha HTR-5990 has the options for adjusting the sub crossover from 40 - 120. (80hz being THX recommended)

Yes, that should be fine. You can also add an EQ before that amp.
