using channels from 7.1

I am looking to purchase a Denon 3310 and to setup the last two channels of the 7.1 system as zone 2. This zone will usually be running an independent second source which the system will handle. My question is can I also set zone 2 to play the same source as zone 1 (my 5.1 zone) and listen to the TV in zone 2. If yes, can I also only play the TV to zone 2 and leave zone 1 off? You can play the same source in both zone 1 and 2 but the sources must be connected via analog connections for any source being used in zone 2.

So if you want to use your CD player in both zones and you use the digital connection (spdif or coax) you will need to connect the Red and White analog connections as well.

Either zone can be played independently of the other which I think is your last question. You do not have to have zone 1 on to use zone 2.
