I have the Onkyo 605..and I tried using the auto mic setup.

I have a 5.1 setup...but I don't have the sub connected, since I don't have one yet. So I really just have the FR, C, FL, BR, and BL speakers.

I keep getting an error after it detects the BR speaker. It says "NO" for Surround right, which makes sense since I don't have it connected.

ANyway, do I need all 7.1 speakers for this to work right?

If your Onkyo is like my Denon then you want to hook up your surround speakers to Surround Right and Surround Left. The Back Right (BR) and BL are for 7.1 the SR and SL are what you want if your running 5.1. 7.1 adds in the two back speakers.

Surround Right should be the right side surround, not the rear surround for 7.1. Maybe you have the surrounds connected to the rear surround terminals - that would be an error because you can't connect rear surrounds if you don't have side surrounds.

I have 6 Polk r150 speakers...

I've used up 5 for the FR, FL, Center, BL, BR

Can I use the last one as a "sub woofer" for now??? Will it damage my setup?

It's just temporary....

Using the last one as a subwoofer would probably damage the speaker, as most speakers aren't designed to handle frequencies that low.

If at all possible, use the 6th speaker for a rear center wired to the BL for a current 6.0 setup.

No you can't, unless you plan to hook up a separate amp for it. The receivers are designed to be used with
1. a powered sub
2. a passive sub with a separate amp
