used speaker selection

Hi all. I'm working on a new home theater setup that will also serve as my main stereo setup. I've been shopping for used speakers for a few weeks and was just about to lay out around $600 for a 5.1 PSB setup (about 8 years old) as follows

2x Image 1B - bookshelf surrounds
2x Image 4T - front towers
Image 8C - center channel
Subsonic 6 - subwoofer

when I saw a set of Pardigm Studio Monitor 40v2 (5 years old I'm told) that I still haven't heard but were far and away the nicest looking speakers I've seen thus far. seller is asking $500, or almost as much as the entire PBS set.

Now the wife would vastly prefer the smaller size and looks of the studio 40s, especially the nice real wood, which will match the room's decor. I also have some older small bookshelfs and a nice sub (HSU research VTF-1 purchased on the recommendation I read on this very site years back) that I can use along with the paradigms a deftech center I found for $50 to make a 5.1 system.

I'm ok with a mixed setup, but wouldn't even think of it if it's not going to sound as nice as the PSB set, which must be designed to blend nicely. Of course I plan to listen to the paradigms before buying, but I proly won't be able to mix them in with the other components to assess the system before I have to pull the trigger (he says he's got other offer). room is pretty large (20x25 ft).

Advice? Thanks a ton for whatever input you can offer.

Cheers,
Eric
