Used (practically new) Anthem AVM 70

I've got a line on a used (basically new with only~20hrs of usage time on it) Anthem AVM 70 for about 35% off of retail price. The only "problem" is that apparently unless you buy it from a authorized Anthem reseller, the warranty is not transferable? Would you take the chance?

Since getting into the world of seperates, I've been itching to get into something more high end (no issues with my Tonewinner AT-300 at all to be clear), and this would be a great opportunity to do so at a reasonable price.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Do you know seller? With the asking price, I suspect that he might be trying to sell you a stolen product.

Moreover, if the manufacturer does not allow warranty transfer, I might think of opting for another brand of product.

Stolen was my thought as well, but the guy in question has ~300 positive feedback on Canuck Audio Mart. Looking at his feedback, he runs through a lot of AV equipment. And some very high end stuff to boot.

No I would not take the chance, you want the warranty, and would you still be eligible for the upgrade to HDMI 2.1 if you wanted?

Did the seller even register his unit, if not you may be able to if he is able to provide a receipt and proof of purchase?

You can also look to buy a used demo unit from a an authorized dealer and see if they can honor the warranty.

My dealer where I bought my AVM70 from has a used/trade in unit on his website

I have bought a few items from their shop and they do a solid job with after sales support.

Something definitely fishy going on with it despite his feedback. I sent him the following email last night after he got back to me to say shipping with insurance was 115$.

Re: Response to your ad FOR SALE: Anthem AVM70...mint...under 20hrs of use....$3250 firm

Hey.

Ok that's not bad. Just a few other quick questions for you:

1) I assume since it is new it has a warranty, but is the warranty transferable?

2) If it is transferable, can you wait until I get paid on Thursday?

Let me know.

Cheers.

He never responded to that email at all, and when I checked my email just now, I saw this:

Hi Fear_Inoculum,

One of the classified ad, Anthem AVM70...mint...under 20hrs of use....$3250 firm, in your watchlist is removed. You can visit here to view your entire watchlist.

So now the ad has been removed entirely?

So on that site the seller can see who is watching the ad and yank it from their watchlist? Weird.

Not that I'm aware of. The ad I have up only tells me how long it's been up for and how many views it has.

Then what triggered the message that it was removed from your watchlist? The ad being removed sounds logical.....but maybe when you looked at the site for the ad you were using cached info?

Here is my take on it. If I am spending 3k on a pre/pro I want to have the option to return it or some sort of buyers protection. I personally wouldn't buy it there, I would even go to ebay before that, because at least I have buyers protection. You could offer to do paypal and pay the 3% fee so if there are any issues you could open up a claim.

He does have 300+ feedback so that says a lot to the person's credibility.

Then again what does the AVM 70 bring to you that you don't already have now or in the immediate future? I'd certainly for that kind of price prefer a warranty and firmware support....

The seller never even bothered to respond to me in regards to the query about the warranty, and now the AVM 70 is sold. C'est la vie!!!!

I strongly suspect that you would have had problems with that purchase without any warranty. I believe you got spared from trouble. When a deal seems too good to be true.

Yes I'm a Canuck. I looked at the link you posted the other day, and with the exchange, shipping, duty etc it wouldn't be worth it. Thanks though.
