There’s a guy selling an Onkyo TX-SV525 receiver for $100.
Anyone think this would be a good buy? Or should I not waste my money on an old Onkyo?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Saw it on eBay, between $25 to $98. If you can live with 60 watts per channel (front speakers) and 20 per rear surrounds, and the unit is in good shape it seems like a decent price for a basic starter surround receiver.

Depends on the market, but there I live, I'd expect $100 to stretch for used mid range Denon, Marantz or Yamaha with at least a few HDMI 1.1 inputs.
If Onkyo lacking HDMI, I'd say it's price on high side should not above $50

I'd pass, but as was said depends where you are as to what choices you have on the used market. Where I live it's not great but can usually do better than that for a 20 year old 5ch avr with that feature set. Sometimes this whole vintage craze for old audio gear can get a little silly.

Oh lord, I just revisited this thread, now from my desktop, actually searched the model, and OMG. This is an ancient analog only receiver. It's Dolby Pro Logic only, not even Dolby Digital, nor DTS decoders.
Hard pass, even for $25
