Use my vintage tuner/receiver, connect it to AV Receiver as a pre-amp?

I am a beginner. I have an older Denon DRA-300 tuner/amp. Now I am researching 2015/16 AV Receiver with 5.1 channels to buy and update my audio equipment so that I can integrate FM, internet audio and movies from my DVD player.
The thing is that in my price range, the new AV Receivers don't come with a phono input so I have to figure out a way to be able to listen to my records playing on my phonograph turntable. I could just buy a pre-amp for the phonograph. But I'd like to ask the forum if I can just hookup my Denon to a new AV Receiver somehow and use it as a pre-amp to an AV Receiver - thereby being able to play records and listen thru the new AV Receiver.
Question: after I plug my phonograph into the Denon which has a phono input(see photo) can I send the signal to a new AV Receiver using the Tape Output RCA audio jacks on the Denon and into a new AV Receiver's audio AUX input? Or is this just a horrible idea?

That will work just fine, although that receiver will have rather a large footprint for a phono preamp.
