USB Phono Preamplifier

Has anyone used a USB phono preamp to digitize LP's? I am looking at the ART USBPhonoPlus v2 and am interested if anyone has tried it, or just has thoughts on if it would be any good. In the past I have used an analog sound card and preamp, but I am thinking I could reduce noise by bypassing the sound card. Here is a link to the preamp:

(you will have to add the http part- the forum won't let me insert a link)

If anyone is interested, I am using Ubuntu Linux 8.10, Audacity 1.3.4-beta, an old Dual turntable, and Ortophon cartridge. Audacity is a free audio editor also available to Mac and Windows users.

I am starting the exact same project - just waiting for my turntable to arrive, I have the usb amplifier and I've started playing with it with cassette tapes. It seems to work okay but I'm yet to put it to the test with my records.

Art usually produces fairly good quality products. I doubt the phono pre will be the weak link: instead, the table, arm and cartridge will probably be your limiting factors as well as the cleanliness of your records.
