USB flash drive port(s) on Yamaha AVR’s

One of the great features that I use frequently on my Yamaha AVR’s is the USB port to play mp3/flac music files.

My only fear is the normal length of my current SanDisk flash drives, anywhere from 2 to 3 inches, protrude out of the port, and could easily be bent, if someone is not paying attention and gets too close to the AVR. I’d also like to close the flip down door to avoid that possibility and aesthetically it looks cleaner and I don’t have to leave the lid open at all times. So I was thinking of purchasing one of the new ultra-low profile units that would fit the bill perfectly to resolve my problem. Currently all my flash drives are 2.0 units, less than 32GB in FAT format and work seamlessly.

So my question is, will my Yamaha AVR’s (2700, 3000, 3020) USB port(s) recognize the newest USB 3.0 protocol? I realize that USB 3.0 flash drives are backward-compatible on PC's USB 2.0 ports but I was wondering whether that holds true for Yamaha AVR's.

Works like a charm. The usual rules apply about USB flash drives and Yamaha amps/receivers with USB ports. The flash drive must be 32GB or less in FAT32 format, create a single word folder on the flash drive and copy/paste the mp3/flac files (max. 2000 files)

old vs. new

now u see it

now u don't

pardon my poor camera skills.
