upgrading on a budget

currently have the Sony SA-W3000 which is pretty sub-par even for the price. I'm wanting to upgrade and looking for some good choices in the $3-$400 range. i do realize that for that price i won't be getting the best but as long as it's a step up from what i got, i'll be happy. I've heard that the BIC F12 is pretty decent, any thoughts?

Other choices would be the HSU STF-2 or VTF-1 STF-2 Subwoofer

would u suggest any/all of those 3 over the BIC F12?

The BIC is well known and often recommended for the price, however it isn't known for the best sound. I've tested the CSX-12 MkII and found it to be pretty clean up to its limit. HSU's subs are highly regarded for their sound quality. I don't have actual experience with the JBL, but for the price, I don't think it would be a bad choice and I'll guess it is closer in performance to the F12 than not.
