Upgrading my Stereo Pair

I currently have a Yamaha YHT575 'HTIB' which I have been pretty happy with for the last 2 years.

However as a music lover I really want to upgrade the Stereo Pair. Personally I hate overly bright speakers and really like speakers that have very defined middle frequencies as I mainly listen to rock and metal, and some jazz.

I was origanally considering Dali Concept 6 or 8's but I have learnt that I can get a really good deal on any Canton Speakers through where I work however no one really stocks these speakers in Brisbane so an audition is unlikely.

I have become interested in Canton GLE490's and Canton Ergo 670's and 690's

I have heard that Cantons can be irritatingly bright so this worries me. The Cantons are an aluminium designed speaker which also points to brightness...?

Any thoughts?

Don't use what the tweeter is made off as a way of choosing speakers. Thats all in the past in the same way as saying all Yamaha receviers sound bright. That no longer holds true. You need to audition for yourself and determine whats best for your ears. Personally, I love PSB Image series and would love to upgrade to their new Imagine series. Both series are laid back and very musical. That was the criteria for me when I bought my PSBs, their ability to do 2 channel etremely well.

The tweeter isn't aluminium - It is silk dome (fabric). The woofers are actually aluminium. People have told me that Canton's are bright but apparently they have improved over the last few years with the introduction of the fabric tweeter over the previous aluminium.

I am asking if anyone has any experience with Canton GLE490s. An audition will be impossible but getting them at half price might be worth the risk...

I know you should always audition speakers before buying but Dali's Concepts are about the only Mid-Range speaker you can audition around here.

Where are you located at and what's your budget?t may be worth the drive to a neighboring city to audition some speakers. Seems like you're into silk dome tweeters. If you can, audition these-Vienna Acoustics, Sonus Faber and Dynaudio(their Danish just like Dali but better). Happy hunting.
