I want to replace my Denon DVD 2200 with a better DVD player.
I've decided to wait on the new HD type of players.

I'm trying to keep the price as close as I can to around $500; but I am flexible.

I'm looking at a used Denon DVD 2910 or maybe a new NAD t534 or new Marantz DV6600.

You should be able to get a discounted 2910 new right now because the 2930ci was already announced and should be in stores soon.

Unless you're looking for the video upscaling function, the 2910 won't really be much of an upgrade. I think my next upgrade will be to a $500 range HD player that also converts 480i DVD's to the higher resolutions......once the bugs are worked out.

Thnaks for the feedback. What's an OPPO971H?

Thanks for all the feedback so far.
I think the reason I was thinking about a Denon 2910 is the upscalling. I like my Denon DVD 2200 and thought the upscaling might be a nice feature.
In fact, I wanted to buy a HD player because of the upscaling. But the sound is probably not up to par yet and there are other issues that made me want to wait.

What is an OPPO971H? Can you buy it from a dealer? How reliable is this DVD player.

I'll letcha know ;) I just received one (actualy the newer 970 model as it plays SACD too) to replace my Denon 2900. I'm not expecting the same sound quality but I hope it's close. At $150 if it lasts a year or two I'll be more than satisfied. It can't be less reliable than my 2900 has proven to be lately....but that's another tune.

I actually just got to compare the 970 and 2900. For sound quality via analog out/multichannel....the 2900 definitely has better sound to my ears.

The 970 seemed to have a bit better picture....the 971 is suppose to be even better.

For $150 though, it is still half the cost of a used 2900....and I think well worth it, especially if used a placeholder until the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray thing shakes out.

A buddy just received his 971H yesterday, so I'll be looking to get a first hand look at what it is capable of.

Note that you'll need a TV with HDMI or DVI to be able to use the upconversion of the 2910 or 971H. Neither does it via component.

I know the 970 will let you upconvert via component, but the DVD discs are what actually limits this capability.

I'm more interested in sound and picture. You helped me a lot! Thanks!

I'm looking at a NAD T534. I auditioned one last night and it was very nice looking and sounding. I compared it to my old Denon 2200.
If I don't buy the NAD T534, I'll look for a bargin B-stock or used Denon. Or I'll wait for the new Denon's to come out!

Thanks!
