upgrading 5.1 HT to 7.1 (how)

Here is my current Home Theater setup:
Sharp 46" LCD TV
SONY BDP 350
Denon AVR 689 Receiver
Paradigm CT 110 5.1 speakers

To welcome the new member, Oppo BD-83, I hope to upgrade my Paradigm speakers to 7.1. Does it mean I can add "ANY" 2 speakers at rear? Any comments?

My paradigm speakers were new (bought 2 months ago), and I wonder if I have to buy 2 surround speakers from Paradigm, or any other speakers (I have 5 JVC SX-ST6500 8ohms 100watt satellite speakers, not being used anymore).

Generally for the rear surrounds, you want monopole as opposed to the dipole speakers for the side surrounds. I'd look for a pair of bookshelf sized speakers from the CT series, if possible or another pair of 100s.

I would expect "any" speakers would be fine.

Ask yourself, do you really need 7.1? Unless you have a very large room, it's almost useless (and then it might be open for debate).

Take a look at the list of films available that have true 7.1, see if that seems to be the way to go.

For me, that $ is better spent somewhere else.
