hey people, i have a accusound 5.1ch home theater running off the jvc rxd-301s amp. the speakers are the om750 from accusound. my question is do u think this amp is sufficient or should i spend a little more and get a yamaha or pioneer???,
Do you hear any obvious problems such as amplifier clipping/distortion during use(
this can show up as a harshness in higher SPLs if running right at the edge, if not downright distortion)? If not, I doubt you would benefit from upgrading the amplifier. Now, I will say, it may be that these speakers are not driven as well as they theoretically could be, since they likely present a 4 ohm load across much of the mid-bass and bass range, and it seems unlikely the JVC was intended for 4 ohm loads(please check the JVC's manual to verify). I know the speakers claim 8 ohms, but typically, that is a false claim on speakers with double mid-bass drivers. However, not many recievers are designed to handle 4 ohm speaker loads, even if you do want to 'upgrade' this particular aspect. The best option is usually to use a receiver with pre-outs and use external amplifiers. This also allows the future option of inserting powerful sound processors between the pre-outs and amplifiers to allow superior sound quality in future application(s), providing far greater speaker flexibility. Also, if you need HDMI support, you would want to replace the receiver, as the one you have does not appear to have HDMI support.
