Upconversion - Processing video signal to go from lower quality input to higher quality output.
Example, Composite to S-video, Component to HDMI, S-video to HDMI, etc.

Upscaling - Processing the video signal to go from lower format input to higher format output.
Example, 480i to 480p, 720p to 1080p, 480p to 1080p, etc.

While many mid level receivers offer Upconversion, very few offer Upscaling.

Whats your budget?

I'm not sure what you mean by "RCA connection"? Are you refering to Component Video (Red, Blue, Green)? Also, it would help to know what kind of TV you have, I assume you will be using HDMI from the Reciever to the TV?

Yellow is the composite video, the other two are left and right sound. Do you lease your cable boxes? If so, get them to give you a new one. That is an old crappy box if it has only composite video outs:(
If not, you can get an upconverting receiver such as the onkyo 605. The yamaha 661 will only upconvert to component.

Get a new cable box

Start by asking your cable companny for a new box with a component video or HDMI output. A $500 receiver will not make your 480i SD cable signal look good on your 61" set. Consider upgrading to digital cable or satelite for a better quality source.
