Is that what it is? S-video from my DVD to my 2805 and then component cables from the 2805 to the tv. Is this suppose to be better then S-Video to the TV? Also does switching the S-Video to the TV with component cables have any effect with the 2805 on screen menu?

I don't believe that the Denon upconverts. It just converts. It converts the S-video feed of 480i to a component feed of 480i. This simplifies wiring, but really has zero improvement in video quality.

Why are you using S-video out of your DVD player? If that is all it has, then it is definitely time for a halfway decent progressive scan DVD player with component output.

The correct term for converting from composite or s-video to component is 'transcoding'. Transcoding does not improve the quality or change the resolution. It simply converts from one format to another. It is for convenience only so that you need only 1 cable from the receiver to the tv and audio and video switch at the same time.

The AV industry adopted the term from the software industry where we use transcoding to mean converting from one data format to another - such as converting all document formats on the fly to HTML for display in your browser.
