Upconversion to HDMI

I've seen a lot of discussion about this topic on this board and I myself have gotten caught up in it too.

If my two video sources are dvd and satellite, here's my question...

If I get a dvd player that upconverts to HDMI and I get a satellite receiver with HDMI output, do I even give a rip about upconversion on the receiver?

Or can I save money on the receiver because it really isn't adding anything for me? Assuming the receiver has 2 HDMI inputs that is.

Let me know if I am missing something.

Most receivers do not actually "upconvert" anything. Changing composite, S-video, and component signals to HDMI is NOT upconversion, though its called that on most. Real upconversion is going from 480i\p to 1080i\p. Some receivers do actually have upconversion processors, but if the input signal is already hi-def, they wouldnt do anything.. so you wouldnt need to pay extra for it. Simple HDMI switching would be fine.
