Upconversion s-video/component

Has anyone had any experience with the newer receivers that upconvert s-video and composits to component signals? I would love to switch all video sources through the receiver instead of having to switch the tv and receiver, etc.
I worry about the quality of these converters though. I had a bad experience with a Marantz receiver destroying any s-video it switched. I have been routing video around receivers since then.
I'd like to hook up one set of component cables to a plasma screen and be done.

I was considering the Marantz VQ2400 upconverter for my setup, but in light of your bad experience, may hold off. Was it the above model you were using, or an integrated upconverter on a marantz receiver?

I am using an Onkyo TX-NR900 receiver, which upconverts composite to s-video. I understand that the new Onkyo models (like the 901, 801, etc.) and the new Denons upconvert s-video to component as well.

No, it was just a sr5000 receiver. it was just switching s-video (not upconverting to anything). Everything looks washed out. Ended up just buying a little dedicated s-video switch. I just know whether mass market receivers do a decent job in the video section. I'm loooking at the denon 38 series and the Integra line as well. Can't really afford high end seperates.

I have the Denon 3805. I have S-video coming from my SAT receiver and my VCR has composite video. Both signals are being up converted to component video by the denon and both pictures are sharp, crisp, and clear.

I have both a s-video signal and a standard composite signal being upconverted through my Pioneer 54tx and it looks great! I don't know if its just me but when I play a standard vhs it definitly looks clear.

Does that mean that the new Denon upconverts S-Video and composite to component progressive? I'm after the same goal. I'd like to just have my HDTV as a monitor and handle all my A/V switching via the receiver remote.
