What is the difference between Upconversion and Upscaling?
I have 32" LCD with 720p, I use DVD, Satellite receiver & PS3, which do I need?
Upconversion is changing the cable over which the picture is sent. i.e. composite video (yellow jack) to HDMI, comopnent video (red/green/blue RCA jacks) to HDMI and such.
This does not enhance the picture,. It exists only as a convenience to cut down the number of video feeds needed.
Upscaling changes the resoution of a picture i.e. 480 to 720, 720 to 1080, i to p, and the like.
Dependng on the method/chips used, this may or may not enhance the picture. But I wouldn't get too involved here. The montor itself upscales/downscales as needed to it's native resolution and generally does a pretty good job.
In your case, anything over 720 is going to cause the TV to downscale. I don't think having too many "scalers" in the circuit does too much good.
