Hello. First Post.
My name is Dave......and I am and audioholic!
Had the bug for a year or so now.
I got er bad, too..........
90% music, 10% movies....
I am looking to upgrade my universal player.
Pioneer DV45A.
I am buying used.
I can afford a Denon 3910.
But there is a 5900 in the same price range.
Also a 2930ci which is odd.............
I know the 5900 is a bit older, but so is my tv.
Is it a better unit than the 3910?
I am not concerned about proprietary cables, or hdmi, at this point.
Or HDVD, for that matter.
I have read many reviews and am unclear if there will be an audible difference.
Any help would be appreciated......

Thanks, Nick.
I just bought a used 3910 for under $700 shipped.
The pre2dsp has no digital inputs for surround audio....
The Elite DV45A sounds and looks good....
but I think this denon will take it up a notch....
I was looking at a Lexicon RT10, but that was another $300 more.
It's always about the moolah, ya know.......

See what you think of the 3910. If I were you, I'd have kept the 45A for universal capabilities and purchased an HD-DVD player for the video. You could always sell the 3910 again, they're a fairly hot commodity.

I hope I like it......I haven't sold the Pioneer, just yet. And I just don't watch enough movies to go HDvd, yet. Heck, I'm not using HD on my tv yet....been meaning to buy a stb with qam and ota capabilities, but the audio side is still pulling at my wallet........

I love Mordaunts, but if were you and doing 90% music, speakers would be where I'd be investing most of my money.

I'm working on it, boss.......
My first audiophile was into vintage gear....JBL Hartsfields and some old tube stuff.....it sounded like silky velvet....so I kind of went that route....then realized the stuff I could afford looked, well, old and tired. So I changed gears, and am going this route. And I'm loving it. I got a good deal on the MS Fronts and center locally that I couldn't pass up. I'm just getting the cabling up to snuff and the rig is sounding sweet. Not perfect, but the best I've had yet. The ah ha moments as well as the fun of waiting for a new piece to arrive is beyond awesome. Plus I am single so I don't have the waf. An old friend just got a plasma but won't spend any $$$ on the audio or video side, so I said I'd help him out a bit and gave him some of my orig surround stuff. A JBL sub, center, and some BA CR6 surrounds. We carried them in his house and his wife acted like we had just took a crap in her living room......
