underpowering speakers???

Hi Guys new to forum. Just have question. dose under underpowering speaker damage them? I have recently purchased jbl L880 towers Lc1 for centre and L820 for rear and l8400p sub. I have only hooked up the two towers centre and sub for now as I feel my amp I purchased a few years ago won't cut it? It is a pioneer vsx-826. I know it is entry level but is all I could afford at the time. I asked at the time a min of 130w only to find out that once I got it home that was a 6ohms. I checked the jbl spec sheet and all it says is 100w to 400w at 8ohm. So will running them at 80w 80w damage them. Kind regards kris.

Nothing to worry about there unless your space is rather large and you will listen at very loud levels

So will I damage them if I turn them up to loud or will that just sound like crap?

If it does sound like crap when you turn it up, turn it back down. Easiest way to control damage to both your ears and speakers. If you try and drive the speakers past the amp's capability then bad things can happen, especially when alcohol is also involved . The max wattage ratings for the speakers are only so meaningful....

Your mains are 91dB sensitive (i.e. at 2.83V input, or 1 watt at 8 ohms, spl is rated at 91dB at one meter distance from the speaker) so your receiver can get your speakers to quite loud levels. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're planning on extremely high spl playback at a fair distance from the speakers.
