Under 18.5"h, down-firing SW Choices?

I have a 7.1 system with hidden, IR operated components based on Sony DG920, large Advent mains, BIC center and Yamaha 8" sub built into a 10' granite fireplace surround with inset 52" LCD; all behind 15 sq.ft, of Acoustic Solutions grills. Boss says no more grills, but I "need" a second sub. Solution was to build a 15cf corner "bench" with 3" slots along the floor; built for a down-firing SW with damping material behind. (I do realize this is not acoustically ideal)

Now I'm ready for the sub - no more than 18.5" high, and down-firing. Some candidates are the Yamaha YST-SW315-325, BIC-V1220<?>, or the Klipsch Sub10. Shorter is better, for addition of decoupling. Any ideas/alternatives??

Rythmik has 12" sealed sub, you could build a small riser to make it down firing. Or svs has the small 12" sealed sub which is quite powerful as well you could do the same thing with.

Otherwise I would look into DIY and build your own.

How large is your room, what are the available dimensions for the sub? Those subs portend that you're on a smaller budget, however, they may be a little underwhelming. A sealed sub design would be preferred, and as Warp mentioned you could build a small riser to make it down firing, or use hockey pucks or something similar. It is not as good as the Rythmik, Epik, or SVS, but the Frys near me has the MartinLogan Abyss discounted from $1100 to $450 right now (I asked - they do not know for how long). It might be worth a call to see if this is happening in your area (not available via mail order).
The Abyss is a 12" Sealed sub which can be configured as either down or front firing. Google is your friend, plenty of info on the Abyss out there...
