I used to switch DSP modes manually for different sources -- stereo mode with the Music DSP for my PC or network streaming, DTS Neo:X Cinema with the Movie DSP for cable TV, and native multichannel content would override any virtual mode I had enabled when available. Now I just leave Auto enabled (the third option in the direct / pure direct / auto sequence). With Auto, for each input my receiver remembers whether I want Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume enabled, what volume I want my subwoofer and dialog, even if my preference for one source isn't the same for another. When I used the Movie mode / Music mode for manual DSP switches, this wasn't always the case. This behavior is confusing and undocumented as far as I can tell, but it is what it is. Try Auto for a while, and remember to salt your settings to taste for each of your sources the first time you select them.
