Looks like you had a long night. When you get back to it let us know if it fixed all or most of the issues.
+1

I'm in the market for a new pre/pro setup and the UMC-1 stand in top of the list.

Can't wait to read your final thoughts!

It took me about 5 tries to get the firmware to load. Not fun.

It has corrected some issues for me, like the UMC not retaining settings after turn-off, but I still can't get Emo-Q to work right. I've run it multiple times and I get different values every time. It gives me crazy values like left front speaker 2 feet away with a 20Hz crossover and the right front speaker 12 feet away with a 250Hz crossover. It had NO eq for my right surround like it didn't even see it, and after level matching all of my speakers, the sub was WAY too hot.

I'm going to try running the firmware update again to see if maybe some code didn't get changed. Yippee.

Man, I feel your pain. :(

WHat I ended up doing was adjusting the gains up or down on my amps for all of the channels that came up as +10db or -10db. This way I got all of the channels to be in the adjustment range of the EmoQ. Once I did that I had no problems. I still ran the sweeps a few times till I was satisfied with what it came up with. Oh, and I turned the volume all the way to zero before starting a EmoQ session. Don't think it really menat anything, but I knew I took it out of the equation.

I also found that the microphone needed to be place on a soft surface. I used a sock on top of my tripod to give it a non-vibrating base.

But that brings up one of my complaints. The threads on the bottom of the microphone are smaller than the 1/4" threads of a tripod mount.

So I think I've finally got Emo-Q working fairly well. While running Emo-Q it kept telling me that the left front speaker was out of phase. I saw a video by Lonnie at Emotiva that explained "relative phase". So I switched the connections on the speaker and re-ran Emo-Q. Everything worked, but now it sounds weird to me when I listen to music. Voices don't seem to come from directly between the front speakers. They more seem to come from above the left speaker. I don't think this is the way it's supposed to sound so I switched the connections back. Should I leave it the way Emo-Q is telling me?

I hope the new units ship with the new firmware, and they also need to make the mic fit a standard tripod mount. Thanks guys for being the early adopters on these, I'm sure Emo with have all the bugs worked out in no time.

You're not thinking about replacing your Yamaha, are you?:D

Darien,

FWIW, my understanding is that Audyssey has similar phase problems with some models of speakers and some speaker and microphone positions. I'd suggest putting the wiring back the way it was.
