I don't have a link, but Ultimate is going belly up and liquidating all inventory starting this Wednesday. I'm going to try and score a new boob tube for cheap, just wanted to spread the word for bargain hunters out there.

I just saw this as well. Very exciting! I picked up odd returns and got a pair of Definitive BP7004's for $400 which I immediately flipped on Craigslist for $800....the same day....that was a while back and very lucky, but hopefully I can make magic happen!

That is very sad for me since I bought most of my things from Ultimate Electronics - all my Def Techs, Denons, 73" Mitsubishi, 62" Mitsubishi.:(

Luckily I did not buy any extended warranties from Ultimate Electronics because it would be useless now.

I will have to check them out, though.

WRONG!!! Folks please do not believe that any warranty you had with Ultimate is worthless. Extended warranties are carried by third party companies, the stores that sell them are simply middle-men; Ultimate's going out of business will not affect how your warranty is handled in any way.

Most definitely are...I work there...err whatever the future past tense form of the word is :(
Sorry about your situation, by the way. That must suck. I hope you get a better job! Best luck to you.

One thing I remember about the extended warranty was that if you do not have to use the warranty at all, you get a certain percentage back in the end. That was what led me to assume the warranty was by Ultimate Electronics.

Well, that sucks. They just opened the Milwaukee store only a few months ago. Ironically, in the same building as the old Circuit City on 76th st.

Shame that no other retailer can compete with Best Buy except for some smaller regional chains like American.

Sigh, another one bites the dust! Shame for the employees.

I bought my TV from Ultimate when they were under other ownership and before their 2005 bancrupcy filing. I liked them back then. A real shame.

Thank you for the kind words. Yes that is true, we offered a "half-back" program on our 4-year warranties wherein if the warranty went unused you would receive half the amount back in store credit. This aspect of the warranty is useless unfortunately.

Mine was at an old Circuit City location too...ironically a Circuit City that I used to work at! I was with Circuit City until we shut the lights off for the last time. I'm thinking maybe it's time to get out of retail!

Nobody can compete with Best Buy??? Have you been to Amazon.com lately? I got my 50" Panny Plasma (G25) there for a couple hundred bucks less with free shipping and setup. No way Best Buy could touch that.

It's simple: these stores are folding because they cannot compete with the internet, especially when you factor in sales tax.

I wasn't too clear in indicating that I was referring to Brick & Mortar stores. I do buy internet as you can get great deals. But for some items I still like the touch and feel aspect. So I do stop at Best Buy, cringe at their setup and some guy trying to up-sell me to something I don't want, let them espouse on the benefits of Monster Cables, and then I go buy somewhere else like the internet.

I agree. I can't even remember the LAST time I walked into a Best Buy store!

I buy almost everything from amazon.

The reason I like Ultimate Electronics so much was because they would price match everything from amazon, 6th Ave, Vanns, Onecall, and all authorized internet dealers down to the sales tax (final price).

So when amazon had the Mitsubishi 73" DLP for $2,000, Ultimate Electronics gave me the same out-the-door price (meaning they would lower the in-store price + tax = $1,800).

Best Buy will NOT price-match amazon or any other internet stores. So I take my business to amazon.

That isn't true - I've had both Best Buy and HH Gregg price match to amazon or other retailers. Hell, one time Best Buy price matched a website that was clearly a scam site and gave me like 50% off of a $500 item that was a new to stores part. lol
