If I were to name the salient factor above all other factors, I would say to stick with the 2 biggest companies (Yamaha and Sound-United/Harman) because they have the most money and resources for research and development and customer support for many years, which means less bugs and headaches, and more compatibility.

Great article @gene and pretty comprehensive. I only had wiring in place for two ATMOS speakers which I placed top middle. Couch is against the back wall in a smallish room so rear ATMOS is not practical. If I wanted to move from 5.1.2 to 5.1.4 can this be achieved with front height speakers or would top fronts be required in-ceiling?
