Well, I sold my Carver C-1, my Paradigm Studio 100 v1's, and my Yamaha P2201 amp. For what?

A pair of mint B&W 602 S3's.
It was a good price, and I'm not complaining about the deal.

But, something tells me that I won't be able to get an amp of that caliber for a while. Not to mention, as old as it was, it was in near excellent condition. Usually those amps are all torn up and scratched to Armageddon.

I pulled out the DSP-A1000 out for the B&W's, and it's working well for the time being.

Did I do the right thing? I feel that the B&W's are better built speakers all around, and they also fit my room slightly better.
But getting rid of my amp? Well, I guess it's harder to find near mint speakers that aren't blown up, rather than near mint electronics that don't run.

Someone tell me it'll be ok.

it's ok... power is power right? Just keep an eye on audiogon and eventually you will find another amp that suits your needs.

It's going to be ok. You'll find another amp that you like even more.

Perhaps nothing is ever quite as painful as getting over your first Carver C-1. It's not just any old break-up; this is the Amp who taught you what it means to fall in love. You thought you'd spend the rest of your lives together. You made plans for the future to live together or go to college together. You have loads of memories of the time you spent together. Now that it's over, you're scared that you'll never find another amp to ever replace them. Here are some tips to help you get over it.

Don't try to get through this alone. Your friends are very important. They will help you survive by listening to you and offering advice. If you forgot about them while you were with your Carver C-1, ask if you can be forgiven. If they really were true friends they will forgive you and want to help you get over it.

Do not ask your friends if they have seen your ex amp. Do not ask how it is; you do not want to know.

Be open and honest about how you are feeling. Don't pretend, for yourself or others, that you are okay if you're not. Also realize that you are allowed to be okay. You do not have to feel sad all the time, or at all. Talk to people instead of just holding it in and being moody. Other people can support you if they actually know what is going on.

Endure the pain and loneliness bravely. With time, the pain will heal. Are you a strong person who can get through this or a weak one that will wither from one failed amplifier relationship? Don't succumb to weakness. Retain your pride and hold your head up. There's nothing better than that.

I think you should go listen to it behind the new owners back.
It's not like it's gonna get worn out by multiple listeners. C ... ... arvers are resilient.
The new owner won't even know you've been there.

whatever I said was advice...
It would be more relevant if you knew that the C-1 was my pre-amp.

Now I am more confused than ever. :p

Guess I'll start looking for amps based on a Darlington setup.

^just realised that Darlingtons may have body diodes. I guess I'll just look at pretty amps and whittle it down. :D

What's the issue with body diodes, I think I'm dying to know.

I still say keep an eye out for those Niles SI-275 amps. Since the DM602's impedance curve is 3 ohms - 8 ohms that amp would mate perfectly. Not only is the amplifier astoundingly robust, but it's packed with features like daisy chain throughput, 12v trigger input, and auto signal detection if no 12v supply is around to trigger it. The auto detection does require a significant signal to operate, but you can adjust the levels to compensate for the signal strength.

At its core it has a 500-600kva toroid and 4 - 63v 10,000uF caps for plenty of headroom. Seated on the aluminum heat sink are 12 transistors. It also has......dun dun dun.... RELAYS!

It runs cool, looks nice, and sells for cheap in the used market. I want to get my hands on another one.
