Today I switched my monitor out on the receiver from component video to HDMI. The issue I'm having is the way my TV is receiving the aspect ratio information. It is capable of auto-sensing the aspect ratio, but it is auto-sensing the sources incorrectly. When the monitor out was over component video, this wasn't an issue.
For example, if it is sent a 4:3 source (like SDTV), it says it is 16:9 and displays it as 16:9 (it receives HDTV correctly as 16:9). Another example is the PS2 and Wii are set as 16:9 along with any games that support them, and the TV thinks it is receiving a 4:3 signal even if the source format is 16:9. Even the Onkyo setup menu is set as 16:9 but displayed as 4:3.
I'm really confused.... would this be a TV issue or the receiver issue?
Remember, it wasn't doing this over component video, only HDMI. It's a pain in the butt to have to change the aspect ratio on the TV every time I switch a source. But I like that everything is in progressive format over HDMI instead of interlaced over component video.
What do I do?
