Two SUBWOOFER outputs to AM10 Module

First time post for me...very cool forum and there seems to be alot of experience in here...

I searched the forums but could not find any help for this. I just got an Accoustimas 10 Bose speaker system. The instructions for the Bose have a single RCA type connector to a single LFE/SUBWOOFER output on the reciever. My Sony reciever actually has 2 RCA outputs for LFE/SUBWOOFER. There also is LFE controls on the Sony.

My question is should i connect a Y- adapter for this to the single rca jack on the Boss bass module, or did sony maybe allow for the possibility of 2 subwoofers for the speaker system...in which case i connect the single rca jack to either one...

Anyone have experience with this? Any help greatly appreciated.

(i also can't find the instruction manual for my sony :( does anyone know where i might find one online?)

The LFE output of a receiver is only one channel, the ".1" that follows the previous 5, 6, 7 or whatever number preceeds it.

The fact that they seem to have two, neither of which is labeled right or left, indicates that they might have provided the option for two powered subwoofers.

But without knowing the receiver (there are many different Sony receivers) you have, it's impossible to speculate.

But, I wouldn't combine the two without knowing what's going on inside the receiver. Just use one, either one, to the Bose.

What I would do is experiment by trying each of the LFE outs independently. If they both outs seemed to have a similar sound I would be tempted to try the y connector and see if running both outs made any audible improvement. My guess is that it will not, but may be worth a try.

You assume they are both the same, an assumption I'm not comfortable with without some sort of documentation. Combining different right and left channels can provide unexpected results.

In any case, joining two of the same outputs won't afford any iprovement. It's akin to splitting one signal with a "Y" connector and then combining them again with another "Y" connector.

Thanks for the Help!

I googled my model number DA333ES and found a .pdf of my owner's manual.

It shows one subwoofer connected to one of the jacks with 2 astericks...the note by the two astericks says:

"You can connect an active subwoofer to either of the two jacks. The remaining jack can be used to connect a remaining active subwoofer."

Thanks for your help also!

I did not assume anything. I said if these were my speakers I would experiment in the following way. In any case the OP did the smart thing with out my help and downloaded the manual.

I would not Y connect the two outs. But, if you had another powered sub, certainly try two subs and be ready :D

Pre-amp outputs.........

Marlyn,
You have R/L outputs from your subwoofer section.
These go to a 'powered subwoofer'. You can use both jacks or one jack, depending on the subwoofer(inputs) you have available.
Both R/L........... connect to 'line input' on sub.
Either R/L.......... " " "LFE" on sub.
* I guess you can connect both to run 2 subs.........
see link below for other post on this subject( cross-freq. adjustments)
