It may be hard to see but they are pulling air up. Night and day difference though, the onk is easily 20+degrees cooler. I actually just ordered a third fan, those two are 80 x 80 and the newer one is going to be 120 x 120.

Thanks, it was a lot of fun to play with, still getting used to it. Very cool though, no buyers remorse for me (so far).
You think I should get a couple of them fans? My heat fins got to get at least 140 degrees if not more.

The onkyo was well over 100 for sure, but I think if you're stuff hasn't burnt up by now it probably never will :D

Yea I saw those, they just weren't gonna cut it, either they weren't going to move enough air or they were going to be too loud for my taste. With these, they were 10 bucks each, with adjustable speed, and they look pretty ;)

So with one more I'll be all set and the onkyo should never ever overheat even when it goes to live in its new home in a couple months.

Congrats looks GREAT. I got one of those cheap laptop fans for my Onkyo 707, works good so far.
Amazon.com: Laptop Notebook Cool Pad w/ 3 Fans: Computers & Accessories
I might get a 2nd one as a backup.
Ah-ha, that kind of notebook fan, I didn't want to go that route because none of those hit where the onkyo gets the hottest which is on those back edges where I have them. With the single fans, I'm able to get much better placement, and the adjustable speed is a big plus too.

That sure does look cool though :)

Hey, nice!

I'm a HUGE fan of APC's battery backup UPS units! Got a J15BLK and J35B going myself. Plan on adding an S15BLK for the theater later this year :)

I've had the J15BLK for about 5 years now and the battery finally went on it earlier this year. I had the battery kicking in fairly often with the sensitivity on high, so that probably contributed to the battery giving up the ghost - although it was well after the expected life for APC's batteries anyway.

Wasn't too bad of a price buying a replacement battery and swapping them out is dead simple. Don't even have to unplug the unit (although I did, just to be extra careful :p ).

I was eyeing a TX-NR3009 myself, but I think the new TX-NR818 will fit my needs. I'll be running separate amplification for at least the front 3 speakers anyway, so I'm mostly after features, which I think the 818 will do just fine for me!

I like Onkyo's higher end units. They're identical to the Integra branded ones, and those are very popular with custom installers, so if they were constantly causing problems like all the Onkyo alarmists would have you believe, there's just no way Integra could remain so popular. Onkyo did have a recall last year - I think it was mostly 809 units. So it does seem they had a bad bunch of parts at some point. That always hurts a brand. But I don't paint an entire brand as "bad" for one bad model or one unlucky batch of boards from an OEM. And the x009 high end models especially seem pretty darn good to me.

So that's some nice kit ya got there! :D Congrats!

Integra's three year warrantee doesn't hurt either. :)

Thanks man. Yea the one sitting there is the S15 but in silver. Got in on ebay brand new for a steal. That thing is a beast and it's awesome. So far the only time the battery comes on is when I turn on my amp if everything else is already on.

I agree, although apparently there were some 5009s that were part of the recall, but not the 3009s. I'm using external amplification too, but the deal I got was good enough to not pass up (something to the tune of 1400), but I had to go through a month of back and forth about the pioneer SC-57 and their discontinuation that they never told everybody about type of deal.

I couldn't be happier with the unit and Im' sure you'll love the 818, but should you ever stumble across a deal like I did the 3009 is more than worth the money (and so is the S15) :)

Yup, those are the ones. I really like them, they move a lot of air and you can fine tune them to your cooling/hearing needs. I can honestly say that their noise on the lowest setting is barely audible from my listening position, but I usually have them up halfway because the onkyo gets so hot. I really don't think noise is an issue, but if you're worried about it I would just get one of these

Amazon.com: Thermaltake Mobile Fan 12 External USB Cooling Fan 12CM AF0007: Electronics

Its a bigger version so it spins slower but moves the same amount of air. I ordered one just to compare to the two small ones and if I like it I'll order one more for a total of 4 fans on top of the onkyo. Hope that helps.
