I sometimes watch DVDs in here too. The HP Pavilion dv8000?? has a great little screen for desktop private theatre. Anyway below:

Below: The dark things on the walls are various lengths of rubber backed shag carpet from Wal Mart. The '60s vintage desk and credenza came from Goodwill. The dark shapes in the back corners are RealTraps MiniTraps:

The LED rope lights from Target help cut the glare when I watch DVDs on the HP:

Front speakers are Sapphire ST1-MKIIs (125watt/8ohm), ambient speakers are SONY SS-MB350h (120watt/8ohm), and the subwoofer on the floor next to the rack is a SONY SAWX700 (2 drivers/approx.250watt??)--all pulled together with a small MonsterCable speaker selector switch:

One question though; doesn't the desk block the sound coming from the front two speakers?

There is only one midrange and one tweeter in each one of those front speakers near the top and they are well above the desk even when they aren't elevated--like they are in the photos. Both front speakers and the rack are standing on sets of those heavy bed lifts from Bed Bath & Beyond--those things can take a lot of weight and they don't seem to affect the sound of anything. The woofers are below and fire outward. I elevated the rack to level it more with the desk and the Sapphires to level them closer to the SONY back speakers.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have been wanting to ask if anyone has ever seen the kind of front speakers I have--Sapphires. I think they are clones of something else and extinct now. The towers have dark glass plates on top similar to Outlaw Audio subwoofers--although the Sapphires didn't cost near as much as Outlaw product. I will probably replace them in the future with more substantial towers but I was just curious.

The good news is that the acoustic treatment to the room has made even cheap speakers sound a lot better. The MiniTraps cost more each than the Sapphires...

That room is sweet, but it would be much better if you got a MacBook (Pro). That would complete the clean lines of the room.

I am not familiar with Mac computers but I guess I should be...

I spend most of the time listening to CDs or XM radio. Those sources are not connected to the computer at all. I do have a set of cheap headphones for listening to DVDs on the laptop. They are in a drawer somewhere...I also have a cable adapter to connect the laptop to the PrimaLuna but the computer is so noisy that I usually just resort to the headphones.

I plan to return to the 21st Century and surround sound as soon as possible but right now I am enjoying having a space isolated from the traditional "living room" ideal.

This is so true. The room is about 11'x11'--small. So small that a almost never have anyone in there except me. So I angled the speakers to narrow the sweet spot. So small I can get a lot out of it at a low volume.

I get the benefit of a small room as well (although I have more power, but probably less efficient and harder to drive speakers, can't find anything on yours). It can be quite nice, although your room is much less cluttered than mine. I lack the space to dedicate a room like that although I'd love to, yours is very clean and nice looking. Also nice job with the room treatments.
