Hey Guys & Girls,

I'll be honest I don't know much on audio. I went to a speaker store recently and after listening to a lot of different ones I decided to buy B&W CM8 speakers, got a receiver, etc.

Now I never really took the cover off and looked at them closely but today I did, I've only had them about 5 months and noticed this on my left tweeter, the right one is perfectl. It looks like it was pushed from behind, or something odd...

Will this affect sound quality? Should I call the shop and have them replace or get a new speaker?

Thank you!

Probably won't be noticeable unless the voice coil former is now egg-shaped.

Do you have kids?

Nope no kids. Its really odd as its round when you look at another angles, but I can see the squarish indent that has a little level/bevel where the outline of it is... not sure if it was pushed back to fix, reshaped?

Would you recommend I call the shop then? I don't want a damaged speaker to me I spent a lot of money on these.

This happens when the driver has been pushed in and then some pulls it back out when using a piece of double sided tape. On the CM8 the grills it not put on right...ie upside down sometime lose their magnetic hold and the grill will fall down and some time clip the tweeter. Or someone pushed the driver in.

Did the shop set these speakers up in your house?

I looked in forums online and people have said getting a new tweeter was either free all the way up to 120. For the same problem that you had, but it seemed more to have to do from where they bought than it did B&W. I would really go back to your shop and see what they could do for you.

Ahh thank you, I will do that then. These were the display/floor model, but they said they just put them on the floor that 'week'- and they didnt have any others in stock. Since the store is an hour and a half drive I didn't really want to drive back.

Could they have done this then reset them, hoping a buyer wouldn't notice, that really bothers me.

yeah more than likely that is the case, if they don't do anything for you should call up B&W and see that they can do for you. B&W tend to be rather forceful with their dealers so they might be able to strong arm them into getting them fixed for you.

Oh yea they had to fix them for the driver to end up looking like that. Other wise the would have looked like Focal speakers with an indented tweeter...lol. Its a shame a dealer would do this because most dealer if this occurs usually can get B&W rep out to their store and fixed for free. Was this dealer dropping them since Magnolia picked them up, because the CM8 were rather new speakers to be selling floor displays already. My local guy dropped them when that happened and all he did was bash them when I went in and asked about them not to long ago...totally different to what he was saying over a year ago...lol.

Unless they only had the one pair, they wouldn't usually sell the floor model, especially after only a week unless they wanted to move that model, if you know what I mean. Could be that they didn't sell a lot of them after ordering more than they needed.

Thank you for the help everyone!, I just called- they are going to order a new dome and replace it for me.. Going to check if they are still selling CM8's then out of curiosity, wonder if they knew.

Really makes me wonder, because when I went in- i planned to buy the 6 serious and not spend as much... They had these marked incorrectly at 1,100 a pair instead of a piece. The guy had just put the price out that 'day' i was told.

They sounded soo much better than the others i listened too, so i wanted them. Then they realized the mismarked price. Being in California the law is pretty strict they would have been required to sell to me at that price.

I am nice though and didn't say anything. The guy was nervous since he had labeled them and said they would lose money so what about $880 a piece and 25% discount on anything else I buy and 30% on cable. I agreed and ended up spending way more than I originally had planned haha, 3.2k when i walked out the door finally.

Wonder if that's why they said they only had a floor model... that doesn't really make sense though if its an easy fix
